Shirley Franklin - Artist
Shirley was born and educated in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
Shirley's interest in art began at an early age drawing faces. She developed her art by attending night classes and workshops.
For over 20 years while working, her art was put on hold. She had time only for a few pencil portraits and some painting on ceramics.
Shirley joined DRAC (Dryden Regional Arts Council) and began to draw and paint again. Involvement with other artists keeps her inspired. Feeling that all things have their own beauty, she loves to paint any subject.
Although all things are an inspiration to paint, the human form is her favoite subject regardless of the medium.

Helen Grymaloski - Photographer and Painter
Helen is a self-taught photographer who found her love of photography early. Family cringe because of the ever present camera, but most occasions are well documented for posterity. Though she finds great enjoyment in the people pictures, she gets the most excitement from her close encounters with the wildlife she photographs. Her quest for the perfect picture of the local wild life, though sometimes elusive, is worth the wait. The exhilarating feeling she gets from finally getting that one picture is hard to describe. Along with the wildlife, Helen enjoys capturing the many shades of sunsets and sunrises, scenery in all seasons, natures ice sculptures and flowers.
Helen has started to share more of her photographs from her trips to Wales, England, Kauai and Victoria Island.
Wiith her Nikon digital camera there is no limit to the photos she will shoot.
Helen's interests do not just lie in photography, but also in painting in watercolours and acrylics. Her photographs give her an abundance of subjects, with blueberries being her favorite.
On display at the Naked North Gallery & Gifts you will find: cards, postcards, magnets and framed photos and paintings produced by Helen.

Marilyn Raposo - Mosaic Artist
Self-trained mosaic artist, Marilyn is a long-time resident of Northwestern Ontario. She is particularly drawn to Pique-assiette, a style of mosaic art which uses found objects, such as broken china, ceramics and pottery. After reading a how-to article a number of years ago with instructions to make a broken china mosaic tray she thought "I can do that."
It took a few more years to slowly collect old china at garage sales and second hand stores and with the help of a few "how-to" books and a bit of trial and error, she made the first pieces of her ever evolving art. Often her inspiration comes from the designs on the dishes but she also draws from her love of nature in producing her artwork.
Marilyn also draws, paints with watercolours and acrylics and enjoys photographing flowers.

Leanne Corbin - Painter, Woodburner and much more
As a child growing up in Balmertown, Leanne spent a lot of time at her family cabin on McKenzie Island - swimming, canoeing, fishing and doing all the other activities that are enjoyed in the outdoors. Her father helped nurture the seed of passion for the outdoors by continually engulfing the family with all the fun that being surrounded by nature could provide.
As an adult, her artwork now reflects that passion - using what nature offers as a base for her art. Corbin woodburns on certain tree fungus, paints on antlers and incorporates driftwood into pieces.
She has spent many an hour tromping through the woods searching for that special something to inspire her.
"I am a self taught artist," says Corbin. "Having only barely passed most of my high school art classes. Trial and error were the name of the game for me."
She credits fellow DRAC member Jeanie Cutts as "the one person who truly inspired me to pursue my artistic nature'.

Anne Siciliano - Watercolour Artist
Anne started experimenting with watercolours in the mid 1990's as a form of meeting people and expressing her creative inner self. Anne has been married to her husband Bruce for over 20 years and they have 2 wonderful children Shannon and Brady.
From the time Anne's children were young she has managed to dedicate one night weekly to doing something creative. For example , Anne worked at carpentry, pottery and watercolours. Her husband's motto is "happy wife, happy life", and it's true. Why wait until you retire? Enjoy being creative while the creativity is strong! Over the years Anne has taken numerous workshops with such artists as Gordon Mackenzie, Rose Edin and Linda Kemp in 2008. All these artists mentioned have been published and have taught all over the world.
Anne has been teaching watercolour workshops herself for the past 7 years. A future goal is to exhibit her art in the United States and in major centers in Canada. Anne would like to thank her husband and children for supporting her creative dreams. Anything is possible.
If interested you can sign up at the Naked North Gallery and Gifts for watercolour classes.

Lynne Wood - Potter
Lynne produces functional pottery pieces made in her home studio and sold locally under her Flat Rock Pottery line.
Lynne's love of pottery started in the basement of the Dryden High School under the direction of Randi Neilson and the local potter's guild in the 1980's. She rekindled that love through classes at the Red Deer Art College and by working beside a former pottery teacher at the Edmonton Potter's guild for the five years she lived in Edmonton. She learned all that was involved in the finishing processes by working as the technician in the Whitecourt, AB Potter's Guild for two years before moving back to Dryden and opening her own studio. Lynne's passion for cooking and creating, made pottery the perfect means for those expressions and she loves being able to use everything she creates in her daily life.
Inspired by the colours of nature, she is developing several glaze combinations and being a relatively new potter, she has several styles.

June Aitken - Fibre and Fabric Artist
June came to her love of fibre and fabric early on. "I started knitting when I was eight. I was tired of watching my mother and wanted to just try it myself. At first it was mittens and gloves: then in high school - knitting for service men."
June's "My Stars" quilt collection - stars make a regular appearance in her quilts, like clock work. There are all sorts of names for them. Star in Heaven (where else would they be?), Lone Star, Bethlehem Star, just to name a few. They lend themselves to all kinds of quilts: bright colours for children, autumn colours to cosy up when weather turns cold and colours to suit your decor.
Stars are a little more difficult in weaving or at least patterns are harder to find. She has used a star motif in making a handwoven Advent Stole, a gift for a clergy friend.

Margaret Aitken - Multimedia Artist.
Margaret has taken courses in interior design, upholstery and welding. She finds inspiration everywhere, from nature, advertising graphics, other design forward artists, music, old books, retro and vintage styles. She works a lot with fibre just like her mom, quilting, weaving and knitting.
"It's rewarding to take this inspiration and create something new from junk deemed worthless." By showing her up-cycled art she is hoping to inspire people to be a little more eco-friendly all around.
"As an artist/craftsperson, I am compelled to find value in everyday objects, scrap wood, fabric remnants, left-over yarn, old neck ties, pop cans and ephemera.
Whatever comes across my workbench. I produce functional pieces for fashion or to furnish.
I was given great training in "how to" by my mum, June Aitken, and my really handy dad."
Come in to Naked North Gallery & Gifts to see Margaret's creations.

Pat Pearson
Pat has been an artist of many mediums for over 35 years and is always interested in trying something new. It has been only in the last few years since retirement that she has dedicated most of her time to her natural artistic talent. Living in Northwestern Ontario for most of her life, she is nestled in on a quiet little lake with her husband and considers this time in her life as time to play and create, so, being empty nesters, now that the children have all moved away, she is able to do that. She loves home decorating/minor home renovations, carpentry, dabbling in many different woodworking projects from small to large; she also loves acrylic painting; sewing, jewellery making/designing, designing/building home decor items such as custom mirrors, vases and various other ornamental pieces. At present, jewellery making/designing occupies most of her time, from a simple book mark to exquisite custom designed wedding pieces.
Pat is always interested in exploring something new and loves the challenge of a new craft. Everything she does can be custom work if so desired.
Look for her creations at the Naked North Gallery or contact her for more info.
