An art gallery was the dream of the members of the Dryden Regional Arts Council, DRAC, for over 5 years. In late January 2009, DRAC began discussing the possibility of renting space in the Dryden District Chamber of Commerce building. What followed was a whirlwind of phone calls and meetings to discuss how this could become a reality. Though some may have felt we dove headfirst into this blindly, it was definitely done with wild enthusiasm. In yet another whirlwind, the large task of renovating and transforming the space into a workable gallery was tackled head on by 12 core members of DRAC. With a great sigh of satisfaction, the doors were opened on May 1, 2009.

A well attended Grand Opening followed on June 11, 2009, with a few drops of rain, but still a wonderful turnout to show support for a special endeavor in our community. After much serious and lighthearted discussion, camaraderie and laughter the decision for the name was made, “The Naked North Gallery and Gifts”. “Naked North” was chosen because of our natural surroundings and to expose our raw talents to the community and hopefully the world. As well as exposing the public to art. Though the Gallery started with 12 core members it is constantly expanding and more artists are joining. The Gallery is voluntarily staffed by the members of the gallery, which provides an excellent opportunity to come in and meet the artists.
